The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Eric Carle

The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Publisher: PUFFIN
Publication Date: 27/08/1987
Format: Hardback
Since it was first published in 1969, The Very Hungry Caterpillar has
sold over 22 million copies and been translated into 30 languages. With its vivid and colourful collage illustrations and finger-sized holes to explore, it is a richly satisfying experience for children.

But it’s so much more than that, too. It’s funny – the list of foods the caterpillar eats through on Saturday makes children (and adults) giggle. It’s educational – the life cycle of the butterfly is easily explained thanks to this book. It’s hopeful – the transformation from caterpillar to beautiful butterfly is life-affirming and comforting. It can be read quietly, before bedtime, or boisterously with lots of movement and wriggling. It’s a great way to learn to read, as well as learn numbers and days of the week.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is an amazing, brilliant and beautiful book. No childhood is complete without it . . .

Excellent
I loved this book when I was a tiny boy and I'm sure my daughter will love it too, it's a classic and should be in every nursery, if it's not already.
